Some updates:

This weekend I'm going to meet up with the only friend i made in nursing school for a trip to Olympic National Park. We are going to sleep in the van with our dogs and visit the hot springs and walk up gorgeous mountains. I can't wait. Been in this city too long.

My boyfriend is in the midst of the Ecuador protests. He originally went there to film an Indigenous man who lives on a reserve and works with ayahuasca and all sorts of native plants, but is known for his persistent stand against oil and mining companies from destroying his land. Instead, a huge riot and protest has erupted there after the government announced an end to fuel subsidies causing a massive spike in gas prices. Apparently, Indigenous groups have now organized a massive uprising and some have demanded the resignation of their current president. I'm trying to keep up with news, but fortunately he's been sending me daily updates about where he's at. Last night he rode with the convoy of Indigenous groups leaving for the capital to pursue the potential coup...
It's funny how life continues as normal but all around this same planet there is chaos and brutality and violence that we can't even fathom. Took us months to plan a walk across the Burrard Bridge in an attempt to make the government do something about climate change, but these guys can plan an uprising in like 3 days.

Its so funny- the thing that scares me most about him is the thing that draws me in. His need to see and experience as much of the world as possible in order to learn and challenge himself is the most daunting and attractive thing about him. He would never settle for what people would call an "ordinary" life. He needs novelty and excitement.
I suppose i do too but if i had to be honest- building a home to always come home to at the end of those adventures is just as important. I hope he's willing to build one with me too.
