i skipped class today to attend the film festival with my parents. one was a long epic drama based on he 1976 earthquakes in china. it was predictable and dramtic and i cried like 10 times.
after, we saw a totally different movie, that had little to do with stories and narratives and had more to do with the power of images and the making of films in general. it was called,you are all captains, and it was about a couple of orphaned morrocan kids trying to film something, which ended up being about an olive tree

the director was there and he answered questions, and most people wondered whether or not the thing was a documntary or a fiction, but he told us, in his broken english, that it didn't matter. that films are about the conveyence of ideas and themes of narcissim and destruction and all of that. and this is how he did it.

i realized that i liked the film a lot more after he said all that.
